A Dose of Reality to Fiction, Anyone?

Fiction is, well, fictional.

Soaps and whatever happens in them is not real, the audience knows that, and they really don’t care. And where there is a demand, supply will forever be.

How conventional are producers of television dramas? I’d like to see a unorthodox producer creating twitter accounts and facebook profiles (not “fan” pages) for leading characters, if not all characters.

This will afford the public (people who ultimately pay the cast’s bills) the opportunity to interact with the ‘stars’ and a chance to make them feel part of the drama.

Consumer participating is a powerful marketing tool. Just imagine the buzz!

Since we all know that the actor and the character they play are not one, the poor actors don’t even have to ‘run’ the twitter accounts or facebook profiles, the producer can simply hire one person to do that, seeing that whatever is said by a character on twitter will be part of the story line.

Just imagine a question from one character on twitter, “Brooke just asked me out, I really don’t know whether I should take their offer or not. Pls help” Or “I’m going on a date with Brooke, what should I wear?” Loyal fans will probably know most of a character’s wardrobe and a follower on twitter might reply, “@Somebody That pink top with orange dots and green squares.”

The possibilities are unlimited. Alas, “matured” people worship convention.

(Like I said, I await a maverick to think outside the damn “box.”)
