Painters and Paintbrushes
The guitar is not the reason a rockstar rocks. The rockstar is.
Curtis Mayfield, Fela Kuti, The Manhattans, Bob Marley, Mpharanyana et al. blessed the world with good music. Art that still challenges and changes people’s lives today.
Masterpieces which they created using yesteryear’s then available technology.
So, when there really is a need for you to blame someone, or something, for, say, a writer being mediocre — blame the writer, not the pen.
A remarkable artist works with whatever paint, brushes, and, canvases that are at her disposal.
Not being a remarkable (enter job title) is nothing but an excuse, laziness, or yet another instance of a singer playing drums (or a drummer singing) to pay rent.
Think of the Egyptian pyramids and the tools that were at their disposal.
If you suck today, imagine how much you would have sucked, should you have been born a decade, or twelve, earlier.
(Where there is a will to rock, technology will never be a stumbling block.)
